Beta Feature: New Header Experience

We have created a new app header with a goal of making it easier to create/manage your data and view your chosen data in any available chart.

Working with data sets

The new data loader features are now accessible from a dropdown menu in the header instead of hidden behind a folder icon. From one place you can create new data sets and then manage or load data sets you’ve previously created.

Create a new data set

In large part this is the same process you’ve been using in our beta Jira issue loader. However we’ve separated out the management of data sets into a separate place and we let you name your data set when you first create it instead of having to change it later.

Step 1: Define the data you want to analyze

When you create a new data set, you can

  1. Give it a meaningful name so you can recognize it when managing or loading data sets later

  2. Select the Jira data (board, filter or project) you want to configure

  3. Add optional filters

Step 2: Map your workflow statuses

This is the most critical step of all! We pull some initial status mapping information from Jira and that hasn’t changed with this release. Read our data loader documentation to ensure you understand how this critical step works!

When you feel like your workflow is properly mapped and in the right order, press NEXT

Step 3: Additional fields

We load certain defaults fields such as Key, labels, etc. and let you add any relevant additional fields. Again, this hasn’t changed from our initial release of the new data loader.

Once you are done you can press FINISH

At this point, your data should be loaded. To confirm, the header now shows you the name of the data set that is currently being viewed:

 

If you hover over the information icon you will see more details about the data set you loaded - specifically, whether it is from a board, project, or filter, and it’s name as well as details about any optional filters used:

 

This data set is also now saved and is displayed in the the Data Set dropdown assuming that you don’t already have the maximum number of data sets saved and marked with a star:

 

Manage your saved data sets

Managing your saved data sets hasn’t drastically changed from our initial release of the beta Jira issue loader. However, we do now show when you last updated this data set.

As with the initial release of the beta data loader, we currently store up to 10 data sets. If you don’t star any, you’ll always see the last 10 you created. When you “star” a data set, it pins it to the top to ensure it doesn’t roll off as you create new data sets.

You can edit your selection which will send you to the Step 2 from the data set creation process. The latest updated date and time will also be displayed here. You can also decide to delete any data set by clicking on the bin icon.

Load a saved data set

To load a saved data set you can simply click on the desired choice directly from the data set dropdown.

The legacy loaders remain available for a short time, but will eventually disappear so we encourage you to use the new options available.

Load external data

You still have the opportunity to load a csv file as normal. This function hasn’t changed. However, with the folder icon gone you’ll find the option here in the data set dropdown.

Load example data

You can always load the example data from the data set dropdown as well.


New Chart dropdown

The charts have been grouped according to 4 main categories to make it easier to know when you might want to use a particular chart:

  • Key Flow Data

  • Forecasting Simulations

  • Process Stability Insights

  • Other

It is very common to use the key flow data charts initially to stabilize your process and its outputs. Once you have done a bit of improvement work the next step is often to begin to use the forecasting simulations for forecasting large bodies of work.

 

Filters

When you want to segment your data, you can use the item filters from the Controls for this Chart of Controls for all Charts on the right hand side menu. Once a filter is applied the below green logo will appear in the header:

By clicking on it, you will see each filter applied and their location (Controls for all charts or Controls for this Chart):

Warnings

Upon loading external data via a csv file, if there are any errors or issues with the file, the below yellow warning sign will appear.

To know what the errors are, click on the icon and a window will appear explaining on which line and column the error is located:

At the right hand corner of the new header you will find three icons that should be familiar to you.

Auto-load option

We have added the ability to automatically load the last loaded data set. To set it up go into Display Settings > Default Data Set > Auto Load > Last Data Loaded:

This way the next time you open ActionableAgile, the last data set will auto-load.

To stop the auto-load you can press Exit on your keyboard at anytime during the process, you can also remove the auto-load option and revert back to the example data at any time

Issues related to Beta features are treated with a lower priority than standard issues but we will treat them with as much urgency as possible. If you have a blocking problem then you can disable the new header feature until we work with you to ensure we have resolved your issue.
